Buses from Granada Airport with Bus Routes and Times
Granada Airport is one of the most important airports in Spain, and handles approximately a million passengers per annum. It is located just a few kilometers from the city of Granada, and nearby a number of municipalities just outside of the city as well, including Santa Fe and Chauchina. Granada Airport handles mostly domestic flights, but is an international airport, with the official code of GRX. The airport’s official name is also the Federico García Lorca Granada-Jaen Airport, which is the name of a famous poet of the Andalusia region. Although there is no direct train service available, there are Granada Airport buses that run frequently to and from the airport. Buses are a very inexpensive form of transport, and are used by many passengers as a convenient way to travel.
Granada Airport is located approximately 9.5 miles, or 15 km from Granada city center, and along the Autovia A-92 in the direction of Seville. It is also about a hundred kilometers from Jaen, a city to the north of Granada, and the airport serves as an important gateway to this area as well. The single terminal building of Granada Airport is easy to navigate, and equipped with various useful facilities for its passengers. There is an arrival area and a departure hall, twelve check-in desks and four boarding gates. In the arrival area, there are three baggage reclaim carousels and a customs office. Arriving passengers will find the bus stops just outside the exit of the terminal building, facing the passenger arrival hall. Taxis are also available from outside the building, but transport by public bus services are a much cheaper way to travel, and many passengers find them to be comfortable and convenient.
There are two Granada Airport bus services, and these buses travel both from the airport and to the airport from several locations. The main bus service travels to Granada city, and makes various stops nearby some prominent hotels and guest houses along the way. The other travels to Jaen, but at less frequent intervals than the airport-Granada bus.
Granada Airport Buses to the city of Granada
This is the most common bus service used from Granada Airport, and is operated by a company known as Autocares José González. The company has many years of experience in providing comfortable transport services, and offers modern vehicles which are operated by highly skilled drivers. From Granada Airport, the buses depart after each arrival flight, from outside the arrivals hall, and travel to the following destinations within Granada city: Granada Bus Station, La Caleta, Jardines del Triunfo, Gran Vía, the Cathedral, Puerta Real and the Palacio de Congresos. The price for the journey is 3 Euros, and bus tickets are available for purchase from the bus driver. Enquiries relating to the bus service can be made at the information desk found within the terminal, where there is a sign that lists the schedules of the bus services. Keep in mind that bus schedules are sometimes changed due to flight times.
In the alternative direction, the Autocares José González airport buses begin their journey at Paseo del Violón (Junto Callejon del Angel), and thereafter, stop at the following locations: Acera del Darro, Gran Via de Colon, Jardines del Triunfo, La Caleta, puerta Estacion de Autobuses and at Avda. Andalucia (esquina Facultad Bellas Artes). Each stop is within ten minutes of the previous one, and the total journey of the bus to the airport takes about forty-five minutes. Many of these urban bus stops are located very nearby to popular hotels, Bed and Breakfasts and guesthouses. The first bus departs for Granada Airport at 05:20, apart from on Sundays, when the first bus is at 06:25. Following this departure, the next bus is at 07:45, and thereafter on the hour from 09:00 to 13:00. There are also buses at 15:00, 16:00, 17:00, 18:00, 19:00 and 20:00, seven days a week.
Granada Airport Buses to Jaen
From the arrivals area of Granada Airport, the Asina Graells bus service travels to the city of Jaen. Buses are available three times per day between the two locations, and the journey will cost passengers just less than 9 Euros. The bus takes passengers to the Jaen Bus Station in the city, from where connections to many other bus routes are available.
In addition to the two public bus services, hotels in Granada may offer complimentary shuttle services for their guests arriving at the airport. Especially from the larger hotel chains, shuttle buses take passengers from the airport to their place of accommodation. Their services, although usually free of charge, will require an advanced reservation.
Passengers can find out more information regarding the Granada Airport buses from the official websites of the bus companies, at www.autocaresjosegonzalez.com and www.alsa.es, or from the Aena desk within the airport terminal. Aena is an airport management company handling all operations at many of the Spanish airports.
